Two Persian Cats is a composition for young band, that explores the varying characters of the composers' Persian cats named Chloe and Bailey. The first section represents their Persian origins; based on a motif A built on the Persian mode, i.e. the notes Ab, Bb, C, Eb, G. A contrasting slower section builds up to the recap of motif A, now with the brass playing a Persian dance rhythm.
The Adagio section represents the sweet character of the cats, always in search of cuddles and love. In the final Allegro section, the composer tries to explore their playful character. This, by using the motif A in a blues style which is generally associated with the way cats move and walk around, and then using the same motif in the high winds to help the listener picture the sweet playful character of the cats.
The finale marked in Maestoso offers further diversities in harmony and together with the involvement of the band members to mimic the cats' sound, this work will surely please all bands and their audiences.
