Instrumentation: Soprano, Tenor & Piano accompaniment.
Composed in 2023, this Ave Maria is based on the traditional Roman Catholic Prayer that inspired great composers Gounod, Caccini and Piazzolla to name a few.
The composer combines the traditional strophic form with the through-composed form. In this way, the verses are non-repeating whilst giving a continuous flow of music that climaxes at the Maestoso finale, with the key change from F Major to Ab Major where the tenor sings the countermelody by imitating the soprano melody.
The combination of strophic and through-composed forms is seen by the identical four bar melody in the beginning of each verse i.e. - for every “Ave Maria” and “Sancta Maria”, whilst modifying the second part of each verse. The change of key from C Major to F Major in the recapitulation of the first verse keeps the listener interested.
